DIRECTOR OF DISCIPLESHIP [DOD] POSITION
Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Catharines is seeking a person on a part-time basis to help the congregation grow as disciples of Jesus. Though that’s a broad mandate, our hope is that the Director of Discipleship [DOD] will especially relate to young families, children and teens.
Knox is an historic, downtown congregation. Fifty years ago it had 1,000 members, today it has 250. After a period of numerical decline, that is now being reversed, and the congregation is excited to see its ministry expand in numerous ways. As a Reformed, Presbyterian church, we’re committed to the classical Christian faith and tradition-rich worship. We preach Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, worship in ways that engage the heart and mind, and encourage meaningful ministry involvement.
Discipleship is one of Knox’s growing edges. That is: learning what the Christian faith is all about and learning what it means to live as disciples of Jesus, is being nurtured in seminars, workshops, preaching, and bible studies. The response to this has been encouraging. The challenge, however, is to help Knox expand from being a largely older congregation to a multi-generational one. At present, the Sunday school and Youth Group each have single digit numbers attending. A challenge awaits!
We’re trusting God to lead us to a person with the following gifts and qualities:

  • A person of mature Christian faith who has a track-record of faithful, practical ministry
  • A person with the creativity to lead us to what doesn’t yet exist and the patience to love what does
  • A person who’s comfortable in a traditional church setting, respectful of our theological, liturgical, and pastoral convictions and commitments
  • A person who can give from (18 -20) hours per week for 40-45 weeks, and is present on Sunday mornings.
  • A person who is a team player, working with the Minister and Discipleship Committee, and those who help lead the Sunday school and Youth Group.
  • A person who enjoys children and teenagers, and wants to encourage them to be young disciples of Jesus and part of his church.
  • A person with the skills to design, promote, oversee and lead various ministries, whether a parenting course, youth group, summer ‘camp’, or leading children and youth in worship participation. Musical gifts will be an asset.

Knox will offer a stipend commensurate with skills and qualifications. The person we’re looking for is an enthusiastic lay Christian, who may or who may not have formal youth/ family ministry training, but has the humility to learn.
Depending on interests and giftedness, Knox is open to candidates who could assist not only in in discipleship ministries such as Home Groups, but in mission and outreach, particularly to young families, plus assisting the minister with pastoral care.
If you are interested, please send a resume and the names of two references, [one being the current pastor/minister of the church you attend] to, The DOD Search Team, Knox Church, 53, Church St. St. Catharines L2R 3C3 Ontario.
